LIVERPOOL 24/25
What is to be made of Liverpool's 24/25 season?
At 10:36am on January 26 2024, an announcement from Liverpool’s social media pages rocked fans across the world: Jürgen Klopp had decided to leave Liverpool FC. Upon the conclusion of the 23/24 season, Liverpool’s prospects for the upcoming season were uncertain. On the 20th of May 2024, Arne Slot was officially announced as the man to replace Jurgen as Liverpool’s manager. It was, although, hinted at by Jurgen when he led the ‘Arne Slot La La La’ chant on his last game as manager against Wolves.

LIVERPOOL IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE
The 24/25 season for Liverpool began with a 2-0 win away to Ipswich. This win would set the tone for Liverpool’s season as they went on a tear in the league with only two losses as of 29/04/2025, against Nottingham Forest and Fulham. Mo Salah this season was head and shoulders above every player in the league. He has 44 goal contributions thus far: 28 goals and 18 assists, a league record. Liverpool dominance in the league was resounding as they made light of former champions Manchester City by completing a league double over them. Arsenal led the chasing pack this season, but even they weren’t capable of pipping Liverpool to the title. With a chance to be crowned champions early on before the last matchday, the Reds handed Tottenham a 5-1 drubbing to seal the league title with four games to spare. This league win is even more impressive when you factor in that it was Arne Slot’s first time in the big leagues. He had many doubters at the time of his appointment, rightly so, given how hard a task it seemed to replace a Reds legend like Jurgen.

LIVERPOOL IN THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
The Reds' Champions League form was synonymous with their league form. They were imperious in this year's new edition of the tournament. They were top of the league phase, which included all 36 teams in the competition. Liverpool had impressive wins against Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan. They won 7 of 8 league phase games, losing only to PSV Eindhoven on the last matchday. The knockout phase didn’t bring as much bliss to the Reds’ fans, as they were unexpectedly bundled out of the competition by a resurgent PSG side. Outclassed in both legs, they ultimately lost out to the French champions in a penalty shoot-out, ending their European endeavor.
LIVERPOOL IN DOMESTIC CUPS
The Reds didn’t have luck in either of the two domestic competitions; granted, they got to one final. In the Carabao Cup, they had a good run to the final, eliminating the likes of West Ham, Brighton and Tottenham. In the final, they faced off against Newcastle United at Wembley and ultimately lost out 2-1. Their fortunes in the FA Cup were not any better, as Liverpool lost out to Plymouth Argyle in the 4th round of the cup.
The biggest talking points this season surrounding Liverpool were the contracts of three of their most vital players: Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Egyptian had for long stalled his extension throughout the season, which led the fans to believe that he could have been on his way out of the club. He finally signed a two-year extension, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027. Virgil’s case was the same, with the Dutchman committing his future till 2027. As of today, it is unclear whether Trent will sign an extension, with a potential move to Real Madrid being rumored as a possibility.

What was a potential quadruple season for Liverpool ended with them winning just the Premier League. Three bad results should not, however, overshadow the great efforts that the Merseyside club put in towards achieving an unbelievable season.

The analysis is breathtaking. This is good work Owen.Big up to Liverpool.
