UEFA SUPER CUP PREVIEW
The UEFA Super Cup Preview: PSG VS TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
The UEFA Super Cup is an annual matchup organized by UEFA that sees the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League face off for the title. The UEFA Super Cup is contested as a single match at a neutral venue. This year’s final will be held at the Bluenergy Stadium, alias the Stadio Friuli, home to Italian club Udinese. PSG will take on Tottenham Hotspur on 13/8/2025 for the prize, with both managers facing key selection decisions following busy transfer windows and injury concerns.
Luis Enrique's side won their first-ever Champions League title last season with a 5-0 win over Inter Milan to qualify for this game, while Spurs claimed a 1-0 win over Manchester United to win the Europa League, but have since replaced Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank as their new manager. This will also be the first competitive meeting between PSG and Spurs.
CURRENT FORM
Spurs have had ups and downs under their new boss in pre-season, with a 1–0 victory over Arsenal arriving in between a drab stalemate with Luton Town and a 4–0 drubbing at the hands of Bayern Munich. However, after claiming their first major trophy since 2008 in Bilbao, the Lilywhites may have suddenly developed a taste for silverware.
They’re facing the world’s most in-form team in PSG, but the European champions showed signs of fallibility at the Club World Cup, losing the final to Chelsea 3–0. They haven’t played since that defeat in New Jersey, which was a month ago.
TEAM SELECTION
Frank has named a 22-man squad for Wednesday’s Super Cup, with Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie among those who have flown to Udine. Solanke has missed much of pre-season with an ankle injury, while Udogie has been dealing with a knee issue. New signings João Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus will make their competitive debuts, but another new arrival, Kota Takai, is out injured. James Maddison has joined Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil, Manor Solomon and Radu Drăgușin on the sidelines with a ruptured ACL.
For the Parisians, Joao Neves is suspended, while new signing Ilia Zabarnyi and Donnarumma are not in the squad. Gigio’s time at PSG may have come to an end, barring any last minute surprises. New goalie Lucas Chevalier has joined PSG from Lille, and is likely to make his debut against Spurs.
Let’s see what transpires in the game.
